Senior Science Society - Year 12 students

For the past three weeks, the Senior Science Society has been running every Friday lunchtime, supported by our former Year 13 President and Vice President.

Our sessions have provided a fantastic platform for IB science students to share engaging, thought-provoking presentations that connect directly to today’s scientific and environmental challenges.

So far, we’ve enjoyed:

  • “The Dangers of Asbestos” by Ashna A, exploring the ongoing risks posed by this hazardous material in many buildings today.
  • “Reaching Beyond Our Carbon Means” by Harvey AM, examining how global carbon emissions have far exceeded sustainable limits. According to climate scientists, to have a 66% chance of keeping global warming below 1.5°C, total emissions must not exceed 80 gigatonnes of CO₂.
  • “The Role of Nuclear Power” by Anna PH, highlighting both the advantages and challenges of nuclear energy in mitigating climate change, and reflecting on historical incidents such as Chernobyl.

These presentations are sparking lively discussions and inspiring new ideas among our students. If you’re curious about science in the modern world, come along and join us during Friday lunchtime in M15! Look out for our updates on external lectures that we will be attending over the Autumn B half term.
