BGS Maths News Summer 2026

Intermediate Maths Challenge success!
Once again, our intrepid BGS Mathematicians have stormed the UK’s most famous school maths contest. This time it was the turn of Years 9 to 11 to step up to the plate and test their mettle against the fiendish intellect of the UK Maths Trust (UKMT), the inner circle of question-posing boffins whose mathematical interrogations can turn even the most able young minds into a panicky jelly of incoherent innumeracy.

The calm before the storm: the school hall set up for the
2026 Intermediate Maths Challenge.
Here’s how they got on.

BGS Intermediate Maths Challenge Results 2026
Our three highest-performing students were invited through to the next round of the competition. This is the famous Kangaroo, taking its name from the historic ties between UKMT and their Australian counterparts.
Needless today, the BGS Kangaroo entrants acquitted themselves with aplomb. The results were:
- Daniel Lambin 11MPM - Bronze
- Matilda Sargent 10FIM - Silver
- Max Perez 11STA - Gold, Best In School

We should also give an honourable mention to Areeb Ali, 9SDA, who achieved the highest score in Year 9.
Congratulations to all four, and everyone who was brave enough to take part! We look forward to them scaling even greater heights in future competitions.
