October Music Round-up

We would like to begin by extending huge congratulations to every student who auditioned for this year’s school production of Oliver over the past few weeks.

Stepping up to audition takes tremendous courage, and with over 100 students delivering such incredible talent, our team has some wonderfully difficult decisions ahead! Good luck to everyone who took part – we will share the casting updates as soon as final decisions are made.

Earlier this week, we hosted our annual Year 7 Concert, where the entire year group came together to perform both in class ensembles and as a full cohort. We were treated to some exceptional performances by our brave soloists, and we extend a special thank you to our Music Prefect Team and the Year 10 House Band for their brilliant support throughout the rehearsals and performance.

We were also delighted to welcome back the Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir to work with our Year 8 students, Senior Choir and ACS members. It was, as always, an incredibly uplifting experience that offered our students a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in a rich musical tradition. Soul Sanctuary praised our students highly, noting how impressed they were by their warm hospitality and fantastic musicality. Click here for a brief audio clip of our singing.

Looking ahead to Thursday, a group of our GCSE, A-Level, and IB Music students will be attending a live performance of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony. Renowned as the "Resurrection Symphony," this monumental work features one of the largest orchestral setups in Classical music, including 10 trumpets, 10 horns, two full sets of timpani, two harps, an organ, and a full choir. It promises to be an extraordinary and inspiring experience for our musicians.

Finally, congratulations to all of our Key Stage 3 music students on completing their first assessments of the academic year. They have demonstrated fantastic progress and acquired wonderful new skills.

Wishing everyone a restful break, and we look forward to seeing you back in November!
