September Music Round-up

A warm welcome to our new Year 7 music students who have settled in so well into their music lessons and into the co-curricular ensembles.

The brass taster programme is underway, as are the saxophone taster and clarinet tasters, and we hope the students are inspired to continue learning them after the tasters have ended.

Our regular ensembles have already begun their Christmas repertoire; it’s never too early, in our opinion! – in preparation for the Christmas concert on the 3rd December and our Carols by Candlelight concert on the 16th December. The Bexley Grammar Chamber Choir have been invited once again to sing at the Demelza annual Celebration of Christmas in Greenwich’s iconic Old Royal Naval College; a huge privilege we are excited to prepare for. The A-Level and IB students have their recitals in November, and we wish them all the best as they prepare and rehearse their programmes.

We can’t go without mentioning our annual Year 7 Concert which features all the new intake! We are so looking forward to hearing you perform everything you have learnt in your dedicated singing lessons, as well as our brave soloists who have auditioned in order to showcase their talents and musical skills on this day as well. Please do make sure you have bought your ticket(s) well in advance of Tuesday 20th October as numbers are limited to the hall’s capacity.

A new term has opened up schemes of work across Key Stage 3 with Year 7 learning the Elements of Music, Keyboard Skills and an introduction to our music software, Cubase; Year 8 have either started their diploma which focusses on The Blues or are being budding film composers creating music for suspense; and our Year 9s are either challenging themselves with new time signatures and accompaniment styles in The Waltz or understanding the core skills behind Electronic Dance Music.

This has been a brilliant start to the Year - well done everyone!
