Ypres Trip 2025
The Belgium trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.
Firstly, we travelled on the coach to Folkestone and then on the Le Shuttle to Calais, where we then travelled past the Belgian border to Ypres.
It was very busy the entire day, with us first going to the town centre of Ypres, where we bought some chocolate and sweets that were insanely tasty and had 10 minutes to walk around and buy some stuff.
We then went to Tyne Cot cemetery to remember those who were in the War for their service.
Finally, we went to the Passchendaele museum, where it looked simple, but there were dugouts filled with what was going on there, with also some trenches and hideouts. Those were my favourite bits about the trip. Sadly, we couldn't go to the Sanctuary Wood Museum due to traffic, but the coach ride back and to was fun and overall, worth the time spent!

Going to Ypres was very interesting because it was fun but also really sad at the same time. We went to the town first and bought some chocolate, which was very nice, and then later we went to the graveyard which was lined with hundreds of graves encircling this huge cross monument. Literally, from the edge of the cemetery you could see the cathedrals in the town from 2 miles away, which was where the Passchendaele battle would have been with just straight gunfire.
Lastly, we went to the Passchendaele Museum with replica trenches and dugouts and realistic armour. It was so sad to imagine people actually living in these conditions for years on end, sleeping to the sound of gunfire.
