From the 30th March to the 3rd April, the Geography department took 20 of their students to Iceland for a fantastic field trip. If we’re talking about the ancient feud between the History and Geography Departments, Geography is definitely in the lead! The trip began at 7.15am in the BGS canteen and didn’t finish until 10pm Monday night on the 3rd.
This was the first time I had ever read Shakespeare, let alone performed it yet I, along with all of the cast, really made a connection with the character I played. This was the third drama production I’ve been involved with since starting BGS in September and I would definitely recommend anyone else to get involved in the future.
Last week marked the start of new friendships, discoveries and experiences for the Year 10 students who study Spanish and are involved in the exchange trip. As the first leg of the exchange, we received Spanish students from Colegio Marista in Málaga.
Last weekend a group of brave Year 10s made their way to Downe to tackle the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. The weekend proved to be more challenging than many of us expected, but all in all it was a very rewarding experience.
Oops, we did it again! On the 4th May 2017, 5 members of Bexley Grammar’s Chameleon Dental competed in Citi Bank, Canary Wharf against the qualifiers of the regional finals for Young Enterprise’s Best company in East London.
Over the past few years we have noticed a significant increase in interest from our Sixth Formers in the accounting profession. Quite a number of our students go on to study this subject at university, sometimes assisted by one of the big four audit firms such as KPMG or PricewaterhouseCoopers. In addition, some of our students join these accounting firms as school leavers as they like the idea of being employed whilst studying for their professional qualifications.
Before I tell you about how I spent a week at Bexley Grammar School (BGS), I want to tell you some reasons why I wanted to take part in this program. First, I wanted to improve my English skills and try to use my English with native English speakers. Second, I’m interested in the lifestyle of the English people. Finally, I wanted to make a lot of friends.
Last Friday we said goodbye to the Year 13 IB students as they left on study leave. Exams come around very quickly with the Business and Management examination starting the ball rolling on Friday 28th April.
This year’s big school concert took place on Monday evening this week, and featured a wide range of school ensembles. There was a wide range of music on display, including music from the opera, Carmen by Bizet, performed by Symphony Orchestra; Senior Choir performed a medley of music by McFly, and Chamber Choir impressed with their interpretations of Disney classics ‘When She Loved Me’ from Toy Story and a new take on the Monkey song from the Jungle Book.
On Wednesday night the Young Enterprise team competed against 6 other teams in the South East London finals of the Company Competition.
We were fortunate to host a group of students from Japan on an exchange trip. On the 1st March my fellow host students and I went to London with the Japanese students.
