Year 7 Monoprinting
In Art, we created a self-portrait Monoprint inspired by Tracey Emin's portrait of her mother.
A Monoprint is a form of printmaking where one single print is taken from a design created in ink – the image is a one-off and cannot be duplicated. To create our Monoprint, we applied ink to a printing plate and then drew over a sheet of paper that imprinted into the ink to generate an image. To make our portrait look as realistic as possible, Mrs Millar encouraged us to add shading and mark making to create detail and depth.

Reflecting on the process, I found it very enjoyable, and I would definitely like to do it again. My ink monoprint surprised me because I expected it to be smudged, but it turned out much cleaner than I thought. I was also impressed by how much detail could be transferred onto my print, making it look very realistic. Though my print has a few smudges, I personally think it looks pretty good. We're going to work on our portraits with different materials, and we hope to put them on display soon. Watch this space!
