Announcement 4 Dec 2025

Announcement: Thursday 4th December 3.30pm

In light of the Government's decision to remove the additional funding that state schools receive for delivering large programmes such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, Bexley Grammar School, with regret, will not be in a position to offer the IB course of study from September 2026.

Current Year 12 and 13 students will continue to study the IBDP with full funding and support from the School, and I look forward to seeing their outstanding outcomes in the next two summers.

For current Year 11 students and beyond, we will offer a comprehensive, attractive new programme of A Levels and other relevant qualifications from September 2026 (please see our Sixth Form Admissions page for further details). BGS has a long and highly successful history of delivering A Level qualifications (as recently as 2018) and our staff are all well-qualified and highly trained subject specialists, experienced in the provision of A Level curricula. In addition to this, Sixth Form students will benefit from a number of leadership opportunities, extensive pastoral support and specialist staff to support entry to Oxbridge, Medicine and other highly competitive university courses / destinations.

It is unfortunate that those responsible for the School’s funding fail to appreciate the value of the IB. However, with the talent and resilience that has come to be expected of the School community, we are confident that the transition will lead to a continuation of the high standard of sixth form education that the School has provided for many years and we look forward to offering you the opportunity to learn more about our new, but equally attractive, curriculum at our Open Evening on Tuesday 27th January.

Booking for the event will open on Tuesday 9th December.
