PE News 1/7/26

Our Year 7 & 8 boys had a great time playing tennis against Hurstmere on Monday afternoon.

They played 18 games across the pairs, only losing 2 games out of the total played.

Well done boys!

Year 8 Rounders

Despite the warm weather today, the Year 8 rounders team performed the best I’ve seen them play this season. A superb effort from the squad, winning against Lift Academy, Bexleyheath, by half a rounder in the second innings. Great work!

The player of the match goes to Dotty for great catching on the 4th! And a special mention to Nell for her leadership and communication, keeping the fielding team decisive.

Year 9 Rounders Tournament

Our Year 9 Rounders teams took part in the Bexley Schools Tournament on Tuesday, with both teams representing the school brilliantly.

Team 1 enjoyed a fantastic tournament, winning three of their four matches. They demonstrated excellent fielding skills throughout, keeping their opponents’ scores to a minimum. Their only defeat came against CSGS, who proved too strong on the day, scoring seven rounders to our four. Despite this, Team 1 secured an impressive 2nd place in the borough.

Well done to everyone involved!

Team 2 faced some challenging opposition but adapted well to each match as the tournament progressed. Their confidence grew with every game, and they showed great determination and teamwork throughout the competition. They finished in a very respectable 5th place overall.

Well done to the team for their excellent effort and resilience!

Year 10 rounders tournament

Despite the light rain early in the day, the Year 10 rounders tournament went ahead at Townley Grammar, allowing us to enjoy 3 games of rounders with the sun out. The Year 10s won 2 of 3 matches, taking a comfortable win from our hosts 4-2½ to kick off the afternoon. We showed very strong fielding, preventing them from scoring much at all. Our player of the match was Lois Jeffrey, who remained in the bowler position, giving countless good balls and also doing extra by making that sprint to first to get the batter out working very well with our backstop at a tactic we have only practised a few times, and they executed it perfectly, showing her knowledge of the game and advanced skill. Our next game was against Lift Academy, where we took another comfortable win 7½-6. However, our fielding lacked the same effectiveness, turning into a valuable lesson not to underestimate any teams, but luckily, we brought it back with our batting scoring very high despite the morale of our team being low. Our player of the match was Shreya Pokhrel for her amazing performance during the game in her fielding and batting.

In our last match, we narrowly lost 2½-2 against Chislehurst and Sidcup in a close and incredibly low-scoring game. Both teams showed very advanced fielding, not giving away any rounders and keeping the fielding as tight as possible. Unfortunately, we missed that last half to draw or full rounder to win, but it was a very tense game that was very enjoyable to participate in and a great lesson for next time.

Our player of the match was Shreya Pokhrel once again, who played a big part in keeping Chis and Sid from scoring, working well with her back-ups and catching the ball cleanly to then move quickly to the stump. She deserved to be commended for her efforts as she showed great understanding of the game.

Overall, it was a lovely afternoon of rounders and, to speak for the whole team, we cannot wait for our next opportunity to put some more wins behind us.

U12 Cricket

Well done to the U12 cricket team, who finished as narrow runners-up in the league cup final against Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar on Friday. They’ve played some excellent cricket this year, and made a great showing in very warm weather in the final.

Well played boys!

U15 Cricket

The U15 cricketers played what will likely be their last school game on Monday. Despite defeat, they played the game with the great good humour they have always demonstrated. It’s always a fun afternoon on the field with these boys, and we hope they have enjoyed their cricket.

Well played Bertie, in particular, who top scored and took a blinding catch off his own bowling.
