PE News Report 11/2/26

The Year 8 Boys' Football team registered their first win!

Two players down and looking for a win, we stepped out on the pitch for an excellent game against BA this Monday.

Possession was bouncing between the two sides constantly with lots of brilliant play from both teams.

With 10 minutes left in the half, we took our lead from a perfect free kick from outside the box by Ken which sailed into the corner.

After halftime, this was quickly followed up by a goal from Santi. However, Bexleyheath Academy managed to pull one back. Nevertheless, we kept going with hard work from everyone. The midfield and defence worked hard to get stuck into the tackles and to whip crosses into the box with Zac making a goal-line clearance to keep us above.

Only a few minutes left, Pavel launched the ball from box to box. This was quickly followed up by Jayden, who made it 3-1.

I think the boys have worked really hard this season and especially during this match, so I want to say well done to everyone!

Neev Chaganti, Captain

I'm delighted for the boys, who worked incredibly hard this season. Everyone who has been to training and participated in the matches has shown progress this year. I'm looking forward to more success next season. Credit to Neev, Pavel, Santi and Jayden, who I thought were the standout players in our last game. However, all 12 were excellent and played out of their skins.

Mr Martin, Year 8 Football Coach

BGS Year 8 produced a spirited performance to beat Bexleyheath Academy 3-1 and record their first win. Ken opened the scoring with a free kick, before fine saves from Pavel kept us ahead at the break. Jayden scored a second, but Bexleyheath pulled one back, then Zac cleared a potential equaliser off the line to launch a counter for Santi to finish the scoring!

Well done, a terrific effort from everyone tonight!

Year 9 boys' Football

Well done to the Year 9 Football squad who had a busy week last week.

They started off with a defeat against the extremely strong Hurstmere. A 6-1 loss does not reflect the energy and effort the squad put in.

Then we had a game against Lift Bexleyheath and beat them 4-1. Some impressive goals and really exciting attacking play, particularly in the 2nd half.  It is the best I have seen this squad play in their time at the school. A great effort by all, and real support for their peers as they build up a good bond as a team.

Enjoy the rest over the half-term!

Year 7 Table Tennis

Well done to our Year 7 boys, who were fantastic in our friendly table tennis fixture against Hurstmere on Wednesday afternoon. They represented Bexley Grammar brilliantly with the quality of their play, and their sportsmanship.

Well done!

Mr Lines, Head of PE

U15 girls' indoor cricket

A fantastic morning of indoor cricket for the girls’ team, who showed great skill and teamwork to finish runners-up in today’s tournament. The team demonstrated clear progress in bowling and fielding, taking plenty of wickets and celebrating strong wins against Dartford and Weald.

Despite tough opposition against Walthamstow Hall, the girls’ energy and determination shone through, so an excellent step forward as they prepare for the summer cricket season. It’s looking promising!

Year 8 Netball Bexley Borough Champions!

The rain held off long enough for both teams to proudly represent the school. BGS 2 performed brilliantly, finishing a respectable third in their pool after facing tough competition and fighting hard for crucial wins.

BGS 1 emerged triumphant, topping their pool with consecutive high-scoring games before playing their final against Townley. Despite a brief downpour, their determination and teamwork shone through, securing them the championship title.

We're super proud of every player, a fantastic achievement all round! Looking very smart too!

Mrs Kemp

Year 7 Netball

A fantastic win for our Year 7 Netball team on Wednesday against St Matthew’s Academy. The team demonstrated excellent defensive skills and quick attacking play to secure an impressive 14–1 victory.

Special congratulations to Demi, who was named Player of the Match by the opposition.
