PE Update 8/10/2025

The Year 8 netballers started their season with their first game of the year against Blackheath under perfect blue skies.
With the sun shining, smiles all round, the girls showed fantastic spirit and determination throughout what proved to be a tough and competitive match. Their teamwork was outstanding, with clear
improvements showing in their communication and decision-making on court. It wasn't the win we had hoped for but great energy and sportsmanship from start to finish. A huge well done to everyone involved and congratulations to our Players of the Match, Nell and Amayah for their brilliant performances!

Club Swimmers
We have a gala immediately after half-term for girls & boys in Years 7, 8 and 9. If you are in those year groups and currently swim for a club, please email Mr Lines with details of your preferred stroke/distance. This is a high level event and is only suitable for swimmers who currently swim at a club (such as Eltham Swimming Club, Greenwich Royals etc.) or have very recently stopped doing so. The gala is on Tuesday 4th November.

Year 8 Rugby
The Year 8 rugby team got off to the perfect start with a 25-15 win over Cleeve Park in their first game this year. The boys were brave in defence, strong in attack, and worked really well as a team to secure the win. Particular shout-outs to debutants Keir, Gabriel and Rishaan.
Great work boys!

Year 9 Rugby
The Year 9 rugby team finally got our season started, and played brilliantly despite starting with only 12 players against a strong Buller’s Wood Boys team. It was a heavy defeat, but the boys showed great resilience and skill, and scored two great tries. I was very proud of all of them.

Year 8 Football
Year 8 travelled to Harris Falconwood for a North Kent fixture. During the first half, BGS missed a host of chances, and paid for their wastefulness as they trailed 3-0. Onyi netted a late consolation in a 1-7 defeat as a strong Harris team were ruthless in the second half. At least it wasn’t raining!
Mr Martin, Year 8 Football Coach
It was a great match. The scoreline would make it look as if we got destroyed. But that wasn't the case. There was equal possession of the ball. All of their goals came from quick counter-attacks. This was the best the team had ever played before. If you were to watch the match, you would've seen that Onyi (our CAM/LW) was the star player. They also had some amazing players, but Onyi really stood out, along with Pavel (our goalkeeper) who saved us at least 15 times. Half of the goals were not even his fault! I know it may sound crazy, but we could've drawn the game, we had so many chances in front of goal, and if we scored them, we could have had a shot at winning. All the chances were abnormally saved by their keeper (who was about 6 foot tall). I think the boys did a great job out there, and we shouldn't drop our heads. There are some things we need to work on, and once we do that, we will be winning games.
Reese Pinto, Year 8
Year 9 Football
Well played for the Year 9 football team who had their first game of the season in the Kent Cup on Friday. On a very wet afternoon, the team battled really well and managed to head in at half-time with the score at 1-1. Early in the second half, BGS came out fighting and really played some brilliant football. A breakaway and a good finish meant that St. Paul's took the lead. As BGS tried to get back into the game, a very strong St Paul's took advantage and ended up winning 4-1. It was a really entertaining game and there are some very positive signs for the rest of the season.
Well played!
