Celebrating British Science Week: 6th–13th March

This week our school has been full of curiosity and excitement as we celebrated British Science Week.
It has been a great opportunity for students across all year groups to engage with science beyond the classroom and see just how varied and exciting the subject can be.
Our Year 12 students have had a particularly busy week, taking part in a number of trips designed to broaden their scientific understanding and expose them to science in the real world. Students have reflected on their experiences and written articles about what they learnt during these visits. Be sure to look out for their pieces in this newsletter as they share their insights and highlights.
For our younger scientists, Year 7 and Year 8 students have the opportunity to get involved in the Salters’ Chemistry Club. This club is designed to spark curiosity through practical investigations and fun challenges, allowing students to explore chemistry in a hands-on way. From experimenting with reactions to investigating everyday chemistry, it’s a fantastic way for students to develop their scientific thinking while enjoying practical science. Students interested in joining should see the advert below for further details.

One of the standout events of the week was the Science Circus Show on Thursday 12th March, presented by Dr. Ken for students in Years 7–10. This energetic show combined science with circus skills to explore the fascinating world of forces. Through demonstrations such as juggling and balancing acts, Dr. Ken showed how concepts like gravity, momentum and motion play a key role in circus performances. Students even had the chance to volunteer and try out some circus skills themselves, demonstrating their own budding talents while learning about the physics behind the tricks. The combination of science, humour and audience participation made it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
British Science Week has been a wonderful celebration of curiosity, creativity and discovery. It has been fantastic to see so many students engaging with science in new and exciting ways.
