School Improvement Plan
Below is a summary of our comprehensive and highly devolved School Improvement Plan (SIP) for 2025-26. All senior and middle leaders are invited to contribute to the SIP which is built around our ethos: Intellect, Empathy and Courage.
Intellect

Our bespoke CPD programme continues to emphasise the importance of literacy, and disciplinary literacy, with teachers aiming to develop oracy in our students

We instill the attributes of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile in our students, with a goal of blending the Approaches to Learning with our current teaching and learning practices

We continue to have an outward-looking approach to improving our practice, building on collaboration with groups such as IBSCA, GSHA, CST and the PTI

Teachers continue to use streamlined data releases, informed by rigorous assessment and 4Matrix, to inform their planning and preparation

The cycle of appraisal, based around the annual Appraisal Meeting in September, focuses on development of staff inside and outside of the classroom
Empathy

The regular review of Class Context Sheets feeds into adaptive teaching practices, which meet the needs of all individuals

Inclusion is at the heart of the BGS community, with a range of societies and cocurricular clubs ensuring a wide representation of different members of our school

Staff educate students on the use of social media and the issues which arise from it, with a continued commitment to our 'No See' Mobile Phone Policy

The school further commits to widening participation and supporting our current (and future) Pupil Premium students through school based initiatives and partnership with Atom Learning

The school continues to move towards a 'zero plastic' position, utilising the opportunities offered by our successful CIF bids to improve energy efficiency and water usage

The school embarks on an ambitious Digital Strategy, reviewing the opportunities offered by an alternative MIS provider, enhanced IT infrastructure and the use of generative AI

The personal development of students is a key aspect of their wider education, with pastoral teams and teaching staff using PSHE and Power Days to tackle relevant issues

The school actively celebrates and promotes the role of female students, and their positive achievements, with a view to balancing the admission of boys and girls

The wellbeing and safety of our school community is a key consideration for Trustees and the leadership team, from considerations of workload, finance and policy compliance

The Learning Team system continues to be a fundamental part of the school's self-evaluation process, closely following changes to the Ofsted framework and adapting practice as necessary
