This year’s theme focusses on ensuring every young person feels part of the action during a summer of sport. Supported by Sports Direct and Everlast, the week encourages schools and communities across the UK to get active together, inspired by both major sporting events and the everyday moments of participation in school life.

With a strong emphasis on fitness, confidence and positive mindset, the campaign celebrates all forms of physical activity. From structured sport to informal games, National School Sports Week aims to help every student find an activity they enjoy, develop healthy habits and build a lifelong connection with being active.

Cricket

Year 7yz Girls' cricket competition

With Priya scoring the highest runs, followed by the next generation of Wimbledon players scoring 167 and 200 in their rallies. Potential GBR players of the future!

 

Year 9x Girls' Cricket Competition

Year 9 girls kicked off National School Sport Week with an exciting intra-school competition this morning. Despite the warm conditions, all participants showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout.

Congratulations to the winning team for their excellent performance and a fantastic start to the week.

 

Year 9 Cricket Champions

Congratulations to the pupils below who won their pairs cricket competition during lesson time. Yilin, Atharva, Ayan and Jie Ren successfully scored the highest tally when batting against 5 other pairs.

Year 8 Cricket Champions

Congratulations to the pupils below who won their pairs cricket competition during lesson time. Chevaarn, Alper, Jacob and Roy successfully scored the highest tally when batting against 4 other pairs.

Year 9 Cricket Squad

The Year 9 cricket squad has had another successful year, culminating in the North Kent Final where they were beaten by a very strong Hurstmere team.  The team is developing well, and individual performances are beginning to shine through.  Florence scored a 50 and Suchet (photographed below) scored a 50 in numerous matches this season. 

Well done to all involved and I look forward to more success next year!

 

The u12 cricket team

The U12 cricket team enjoyed the final game of the season – a friendly vs Leigh Academy Blackheath. The boys put on a show, bowling our opponents out for 61, and knocking those off in just 22 balls. A shout-out to Yash for taking 3 for 10 in his first appearance of the year.

Well done to all the boys for a great season.

 

Tennis

Year 7 Mini Wimbledon 7th & 8th July

Ada and Nia here, victors in the mini Wimbledon tournament for Year 7 on the 7th July.  Superb teamwork and some wonderful shots played, worthy winners. 

If you look closely, a celebratory Goodyear blimp fly-by was well-timed for the photo!

Year 9x Tennis Championships 

Hajun and Liban won the first of this week's tennis competitions in lesson, narrowly edging out long-term titleholders Alex and Daniel.  The boys commented that “getting knocked out of Wimbledon early really helped us to focus on this event.” 

Congratulations to them and all others involved.

 

Year 8yz girls' competition

Inspired by the excitement of Wimbledon, our Year 8 girls took to the courts this week to compete for the top spot. With the final stages of the tournament capturing attention, students showed great determination and competitive spirit throughout.

After some closely contested matches, the overall winners were Ellyona and Kara, who demonstrated excellent skill and resilience.

As part of National School Sports Week, Year 8 students have been competing in their own ladder tournament, aiming to reach the top seed.

A fantastic effort from all involved, with Oviya and Rose finishing as overall winners.  Well done!

 

Year 8 girls' mini Wimbledon

Winners on the 9th July were Isabella and Eve!  A big match against the previous day’s winners, Amayah and Nehe, a convincing win for the victors, 8-3.

 

Rounders

Year 7 and 8 rounders tournament ~ hosted by BGS
Tuesday 7th July

DOUBLE BEXLEY CHAMPIONS! The Year 8 girls delivered superb performances, showcasing excellent batting and intelligent fielding throughout.

With two teams entered, they went on to become overall winners, topping the table with an impressive total of 39 rounders scored.

It was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon and a brilliant finish to the year of striking and fielding.

The Year 7s followed with their success, winning their tournament too.

Not one but two teams entered into the Year 7 borough rounders tournament!  Superb effort and commitment this season, and we battled some crazy wet and hot weather along the way!  The girls were rewarded for their excellent play with 1st place and 5th place!
