A Midsummer Night's Dream

This year’s performances took place on Tuesday 5th May and Wednesday 6th May and featured two casts across six performances: one performed for the whole of Year 7 and three performances were presented to local primary schools.
The production is always a fantastic experience, involving around 100 students in a wide variety of roles, including acting, lighting and sound design, technical support, backstage crew, and make-up artistry.
Auditions for the Year 7–9 play take place every January, with rehearsals leading towards the final production in May. We encourage students to look out for auditions in January 2027 and get involved in our next show!
A note from Mrs Westergaard
It's only my second year of directing a BGS KS3 production, but once again I come away amazed and inspired by the talent and creativity of the students. It has been fantastic to work alongside Miss Gabriel this year; bouncing ideas off each other and directing this timeless classic. The students and the department have worked extremely hard to bring this Shakespeare comedy to life, and we really hope that you enjoy this 80s version of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

A note from Miss Gabriel
It has been a pleasure to work alongside Mrs Westergaard to bring this marvellous magical masterpiece to life. I hope you enjoy this 80s show with our talented Year 7–9 students and our amazing backstage team: Lighting, Sound, Backstage Crew and Stage Managers, who are an integral part of bringing this play alive. I have enjoyed putting on Shakespeare plays for so many years and this one has been the highlight of my school year. We are so proud of them.
Miss Gabriel, Drama & Theatre Studies Department

This was my first and, unfortunately, last Year 7–9 play and I have absolutely loved every moment of it! Rehearsing and performing with my friends has been such a great experience and I encourage everyone that can to take part next year. I loved playing the role of Flute in 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' and, personally, I think the costume was amazing. Thank you to the teachers and everyone else involved for making this show as excellent and as fun as it was.
Sammy Wickens, Year 9
I have done all three of the 7–9 plays and I can only say that each of these three plays has not only helped me to develop my skills as an actor but has also given me a massive confidence boost which is necessary in all areas of life, not just acting. In the 50 minutes of the Shakespeare plays the drama department put on every year, the audience is exposed to the level of talent the KS3 amateur actors/actresses have, whilst us Year 7-9s realise our acting potential. My final Shakespeare play met my expectations as I closed off my hat trick of KS3 plays as Titania in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', being Juliet's nurse in 'Romeo and Juliet' and my first acting role, being Ariel in 'The Tempest'.
Kendra Kekunda, Year 9
I love working with Ms Gabriel and Mrs Westergaard and Mr Otley, for these plays. This play was much more special as it is my last year 7–9 play, so it makes it so much better that this is my last character. I have been a chorus member and 'An Evil Man' and now I am stage manager. I'm just so grateful to get to do this with my best friend, Phoebe.
