BGS Celebrates Sir David Attenborough at 100

Sir David Attenborough turned 100 last week, and our school community joined millions around the world in celebrating the remarkable life and work of one of Britain’s greatest natural historians.
For decades, Sir David has inspired generations to appreciate, understand and protect the natural world through his unforgettable documentaries and passionate environmental campaigning.
To mark this special occasion, staff and students gathered on Friday lunchtime for a nature-themed picnic on the school field. Blessed with sunshine and surrounded by spring wildlife, the event gave everyone the chance to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and reflect on the importance of caring for our planet. A message that has been at the heart of Sir David’s work for over 70 years!
The Science Department also embraced the celebrations in style by wearing David Attenborough face masks for a special group photograph. Students are now being challenged to identify which members of the science team are hiding behind the famous face! Can you spot your science teachers and technicians?
Sir David Attenborough’s influence reaches far beyond television. His storytelling has inspired countless young people to pursue careers in science, conservation and environmental protection. At a time when climate change and biodiversity loss are among the greatest global challenges, his message remains as important as ever: understanding nature is the first step towards protecting it.
As a school, we are proud to celebrate not only Sir David’s 100th birthday, but also the curiosity, wonder and responsibility towards the environment that he continues to inspire in young people everywhere.
Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough!
