Student Recognition Award

Over the last half-term, the Year 13 students submitted their votes for the Student Recognition Award, which allows the students to vote for a member of their year who they believe deserves to be recognised for their impact on the Sixth Form and school community.

The students voted for many people in the year group and for a variety of reasons, including engagement with House events, having an infectiously positive personality, commitment to societies such as ACS, SEAS and BEES and always being someone available to listen. However, there was an overwhelming voice to recognise Jesse Oshogwe as the winner.

Jesse is described by peers as always ready to help out when asked, a positive presence, always a friendly face and a ball of sunshine. In the words of the year group, Jesse “holds the community together” and “is always involved in everything going on in school.” Many students also recognised the kindness he showed in helping others settle into life at BGS, offering encouragement and support during important moments of transition.

Jesse has made a huge contribution to the wider school community. He is always available to use his epic photography skills to capture memories of key events. He was a massive support to the Senior Science Society as he helped to set up lectures for students. Also, a particularly significant contribution has been their incredible work on the yearbook. Many students highlighted the time, care and dedication that went into producing something that will be treasured by the whole year group for years to come. Countless hours were spent perfecting every detail and the front and back covers were designed by him.

One nomination summed Jesse up perfectly: “My vote does not particularly need any explanation. But if I must, ever since Year 7 all the way through to now, I have not known someone to spread as much joy and passion as he has, whether it is countless house events or working sleepless nights to perfect our yearbook. He is an incredibly inspiring figure and I know he will achieve wonderful things.”

On behalf of your peers, as well as the staff in this school, thank you and congratulations on being this year’s worthy winner of the Student Recognition Award. As the third winner of the award, it is wonderful to see the award develop.

Do you think you could win it in Year 13?
