University Challenge Quiz 2026

On Tuesday 16th March, a team of Year 12s took to the stage at Chislehurst and Sidcup for the annual university challenge quiz between BGS, Chis and Sid, Townley, and Beths.
The team were Louis Luckman, Kanyinsola Maintanmi, Anagha Pai, and Diep Anh Nguyen. In attendance were also an amazing group of supporters from Mr Martin, to family, and rows of other students and friends.

After a nail-biting two and half hours of quizzing, most of which was spent in the lead, our team were beaten on the final question and ended up in second place. Chis and Sid hold onto the title for another year.
Highlights include Diep Anh shouting 'POTATO' (and getting the question correct); our team getting ⅔ questions on German polygons despite the team studying Japanese, French, and Italian, and not German; and an amazing combination of knowledge and educated guesses like 'Van Gogh'. There was one question about the pH of water (which we buzzed early and said 7) and all the teams consecutively guessed numbers such as 7.3. However, the second half of the question asked for the colour on litmus paper, so we all said numbers instead of 'green'.
Thank you to everyone who helped us practice and revise (even though it was a general knowledge quiz, and we didn't know what was going to come up), everyone who came to support and really made the difference, and to my amazing teammates who definitely were the team who had the most fun!
