Senior Science Society Update ~ March 2026

The past couple of weeks at Senior Science Society have been very eventful!

From a Q&A with a medic at UCL to poster making for Open Evening, we’ve had lots of fun exploring science beyond the books. Here are some of the things we have done so far:

On the 6th February, we had an insightful discussion around science communication and the impact it has had on real-life situations. We talked about how scientific research may be overlooked because of cultural practices, such as with the 'Born in Bradford' study and cousin marriages. The thought-provoking questions posed in the session brought us to consider the ethics surrounding science communication to the public through the lens of cultural sensitivity, providing us with fruitful, enriching discussions.

Recently, we spent 2 sessions creating a poster board about science opportunities at BGS for Year 12 Open Evening. It included information about leadership roles, science competitions and success stories of people who previously went to BGS. Additionally, we had an insightful virtual Q&A with Adam, a 5th year medical student at UCL. The session was very helpful in answering questions about the application process and the medical school experience.

This week in Senior Science Society (M15 during P5 lunch) we invited ex-BGS student Sam, who currently studies engineering at Cambridge, to a Q&A session! He discussed and shared with us his effective revision strategies, how to manage your time whilst completing the IBDP, some engineering interview tips and many more.

This Friday (6th March), we will also have a Q&A session with David, also an ex-BGS student, who’s currently undertaking an engineering apprenticeship. This will be at around 1pm in M15, so please be here prompt if you would like to participate, and we hope to see you there!
