Why Study Textiles Art? GCSE Textiles Taster

On the 22nd January, we had our GCSE options day. I got to spend part of my day in the Textiles' taster lesson.

I really enjoyed the GCSE Textiles taster day, especially the opportunity to design and create our own fabrics. We looked at the designer Laura Slater and experimented with colour, shape and pattern, which helped me understand how textiles can be both creative and expressive. I liked being able to develop my own ideas and see how they translated onto fabric.

The session gave me a clear insight into what GCSE Textiles involves, and I found it very enjoyable and inspiring, and it has made me feel more confident and excited about possibly choosing Textiles as a GCSE option.

To help with our GCSE option choosing, we had a Power Day when I decided to take Textiles as one of my taster options.

We took inspiration from Laura Slater’s fabric designs and created a unique fabric print using paint and stencils. This gave me one of the many different ideas of what we would be doing if taken at GCSE level. The experience was great fun, creative and memorable, and it has allowed me to create a piece of art that I am truly proud of.

This opportunity has inspired me to possibly take Textiles in the future. I can’t wait to see what I might create next!

Thank you to Mrs Millar and Mrs Hearn for giving us a fun taster session!
