All the Right Notes: Hunchback of Notre Dame a resounding success!

Last week, over 70 students came together to present our annual school musical, this year being Disney’s 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame’.
Following the story of Quasimodo, the kind-hearted but deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral. Hidden away by his cruel guardian, Judge Claude Frollo, Quasimodo yearns to be part of the outside world.
During the Festival of Fools, he escapes the bell tower and meets Esmeralda, a compassionate and free-spirited gyspy. As Frollo becomes obsessed with Esmeralda, she finds herself caught between his sinister desires, Quasimodo’s growing affection, and the bravery of Captain Phoebus, who defies Frollo to protect her.
Since January, a large cast of students have been rehearsing every week in the cast or as part of the pit band to make the musical come to life. We are enormously privileged to have a strong student body of talent, from musicians to actors, singers to stage tech and lighting, that came together to make this year’s musical production so memorable, as well as a formidable team of staff led by Mrs Casling that helped to bring the script to life, and musical direction provided by Mrs Eacott.
Many audience members were moved to tears, such was the power of emotion in the performances, and we have had so many well-wishers commending everyone involved in the production for their continued dedication and commitment to the show. The show also marks the last performance at BGS for our Year 13 students, who have been so integral to shows over the past seven years, either on the stage, in the pit or with technical support. We want to say to our treasured Year 13s a huge thank you for all of your contributions, and we hope that you will come back and see us next year - musical to be decided!
