Carnegie Book Awards 2025

The Carnegies have been great fun to participate in. This year there has been a great variety of books. The books were 'All That it Ever Meant' by Blessing Musarari, 'The Final Year' by Matt Goodfellow, 'Glasgow Boys' by Margret McDonald, 'King of Nothing' by Nathanael Lessore, 'Little Bang' by Kelly McCaughrain, 'Play' by Luke Palmer, 'The Things we Leave Behind' by Clare Furniss and 'Treacle Town' by Brian Conaghan.
This year, for the first time, we were lucky to be able to go to the official Carnegie Awards Ceremony at the Cambridge Theatre in London. We got to see the shadowers' choice (judged by students online) and the writing medal (judged by a panel) be awarded. The shadowers choice went to Nathaneal Lessore for 'King of Nothing' and the writing medal went to Margaret McDonald for 'Glasgow Boys'.
I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Carey for hosting the Book Club and taking us to this ceremony.
Liv Harmer, Year 9
The book club trip was the first Carnegie award I've been to; it was a very exciting and new experience for me. The journey there was fun and I got to know the other people on the trip too. It was very nice to be chosen, and the experience was amazing. I hope I will be able to do it again. I had a great time and did something I thought I was never going to do. It was fantastic!
Thank you, Mrs Carey.
Sydney Purnell, Year 7
Being part of the trip to the Cambridge Theatre was actually amazing, especially because we got to see the shortlisted authors and hear a few jokes about their books and their lives.
Overall, it was amazing.
