Congratulations Year 10 Biology Challenge Students

This term, 22 of our Year 10 students took part in the Biology Challenge competition along with over 45,000 other students worldwide and achieved amazing results.

They scored an average of 82%; 21 of them were awarded a medal; of which 9 achieved Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze! This placed them in the top 5%, 15% and 30% respectively.

Well done to all 22 students who took part; BGS is very proud of them.

Geography News
Year 7 Docklands Trip

Year 7 have recently been on the annual Geography trip to the Docklands to experience the regeneration of this area. The students carry out fieldwork skills, including drawing a field sketch and completing an Environmental Quality Survey. This work goes towards their diploma which will be completed this term.

On Tuesday 21 May, 7TMR, 7ML and 7LC managed to enjoy St. Katharine Docks before the rain started.

On Wednesday 7JR, 7NMG and 7SDA got a little bit wet in the morning, but the weather stayed mostly dry for our jaunt around Canary Wharf in the afternoon.

The students were brilliant, and they were able to form an opinion on the Docklands regeneration based upon what they experienced!  We look forward to them completing their diplomas after they have completed their Year 7 exams.

Mrs Belton Owen, Geography Department

Students complete their field sketch at St Katharine Dock.

7JR completing their transport hub near the Elizabeth Line - at this point the rain had stopped!

Year 7 Students on the banks of the River Thames.

Some of 7ML outside the Jubilee Line at the end of the day!

Peter Jaques (PJ) RIP

Head of Boys’ PE from 1961 to 1996

The BGS Alumni are sad to report the passing of Mr Peter Jaques, who was Head of Boys' PE at Bexley Grammar School from 1961 to 1996. He is fondly remembered by former staff and students, particularly for the time he dedicated to extra-curricular activities. Mr Jaques was an International Basketball referee between 1971 and 1983 and continued refereeing at county level for many years after that. He created strong basketball teams for the school and his teams were always well turned out, a reflection of his own high standards of personal appearance and conduct.

We wish his family the very best at this difficult time.

Year 10 Cricket

The Year 10 cricket team lost on the final ball of the game against Beths.  We scored a very credible 110, and it took some great batting from the opposition to beat us.  The BGS squad has really come together these last few games and although the results have not always gone our way, there is an excellent competitive element to their play and all players seem to be enjoying the team environment.  Keep it up!

Mr Mackle, Head of PE

Year 7 Cricket

Well played for the Year 7 cricket team who lost to Wilmington Grammar School in the Kent competition. BGS set a total of 83 from 20 overs, and Wilmington managed to get it with a few overs to go. The defeat did not prevent some rather interesting team karaoke on the bus home. Good effort with cricket, less so with the singing.  😬

Year 8 Cricket

The Year 8 cricket team’s cup run came to an end on Thursday vs Langley Park. The boys played really well, and continue to improve, but the opposition bowling was too much for us to score enough. Time to focus on the league.

Image Sharing

There are increased warnings that the soliciting and sharing of nude imagery has become ever more normalised amongst young people and, as such, the Internet Watch Foundation has launched a new campaign called Think Before you Share which aims to help young people understand the harm of sharing such images of themselves and others. There is a guide for parents and carers here:
