The Coronation of King Charles III
BGS Tree Planting Ceremony

On Friday 5th May the school site team and Environmental Action group combined to plant a tree to commemorate the historic occasion of the Coronation.

The student group, led by Mr Male and Ms Miotti, proudly planted a pear tree which will surely be there for many decades to come.

It was lovely to be involved in an event which saw many parts of the school body combine to leave an environmental legacy.

Year 9/10 Bexley Athletics Competition
Thursday 11th May 2023

Fortunately the thundery showers predicted for the annual Bexley Athletics Championships didn’t arrive, allowing our Year 9 and 10 students to shine at Erith stadium. They were met with tough competitors across 11 schools in the borough with successes in many events.

The following students achieved 1st place in their events and now go on to represent Bexley in the Kent District competition:

 Mia Millin
Discus

Emily Sirco
Discus

Harvey Achu-Mofor
Discus

Arthur Chikovsky
1500m

Maddison Lopez
Javelin

Alexis Otse
High Jump

Demilade Samuel-Onette
Shot

 Jonathan Balogun
High Jump

Very close 2nd places for Caitlyn, Zak, Molly in their events too. A massive well done to everyone.

BGS students were a credit to the school and were a pleasure to take to this sporting event. A huge thank you to our lovely sixth formers for their help managing the teams and videoing performances. We couldn’t have managed without - Tim, Lily, Freya, Sam, Ben, Mya, Scarlett, Jared, Sofia and Florence.

The Year 7 & 8 Bexley Athletics Championship will be held on Wednesday 21st June for a chance for the younger students to experience this opportunity.

Well done to all the competitors!

Mrs Kemp, PE Department

Thank you!

The PE department would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored a Year 7 student in our Power Day challenge.  The students raised just over £800 which will be so useful to help fund some new equipment and some specialist cricket coaching for the girls.  Well done in particular to Adam, Arthur, Nikolaos, Lucas and Harrison who were our top fundraisers - with Adam Howard just winning the trophy after raising a brilliant £45.

Cricket Kit

After a clear out of the store cupboards, and some generous donations, we have some spare cricket kit available. If anyone would like any of the items shown, please come and see Mr Lines or have a look in the gym. Good timing for the start of cricket season.

Book donations for Summer Fayre!

I am going to be running a stall selling books at the fayre, and would gratefully appreciate any donations of books to sell, in particular children's books and young adult books. Any donations can be dropped at Reception or the library.

Many thanks,

Mrs Carey, School Librarian

Native speakers of French, German, Italian or Chinese…

We are looking for members of our school community, who are native speakers of French, German, Italian, Spanish who would like to join our amazing team of Modern Foreign Language teachers in September 2023 to maximise the exposure our sixth form students have to authentic conversation in their chosen language of study.

The Language team would organise a schedule around your availability, which would allow for small workshops and conversation classes of 2–5 students. We are looking for native speakers who could ask students questions and support them to articulate and develop their responses accurately. Our Language teachers would support you with the planning of the workshops and topics for discussion. Topics of interest include: Identity, Traditions, Tourism, Food, Culture, School Systems, Equality and The Environment.

If you would like to know more, please contact symons_m@bexleygs.co.uk. We would welcome the chance to include our wider community in our mission to continue to provide an outstanding curriculum.
