Can you help? Sixth Form Leavers Prom 2026

We are in the process of organising the Year 13 Leavers' Prom, and we are reaching out to our school community.

Does anyone have a contact for DJ / decoration / photobooth? We are trying to keep costs as low as possible so that all of our fantastic cohort are able to attend. If you know anyone that would be willing to help, please contact roberts_e@bexleygs.co.uk

Many thanks,

Miss Roberts and the Prom Committee

Music Department Co-Curricular Programme

The Music Department has returned with a very full schedule of activities and groups for your child to be involved in here at BGS!

All students are encouraged to turn up to the allocated room and will be issued a lunch pass at lunchtimes should they require it. If you or your child has any questions about the co-curricular programme, please email Mrs Goddard (goddard_e@bexleygs.co.uk)

We are into week 4 of the term already! Last week marked the first full 5-day week for Year 7.  I have been delighted to see how well students are settling into their studies, and starting to engage in wider school life through clubs and house activities.  It was also good to meet many parents at the Meet the Tutor Evening last Thursday.

In our assemblies through these first weeks we have explored the 3 aspects of the school ethos - Intellect, Empathy & Courage - and how these relate to us within year 7.

Students have a short list of Daily Expectations to help prepare them for each day, and achieve their best throughout the day.

This Thursday they have the opportunity to hear a talk from a visiting author – David Farr, which I hope will encourage them to explore his books.  The engagement of all students in their Library lessons this term has been excellent – the Library has a wide variety of books for students and inspires their enjoyment of reading.

Director of Studies, Year 7

GCSE Contingency Sessions Summer 2026

Please note, the awarding bodies have designated the morning and afternoon

sessions of Wednesday 24th June 2026 as ‘contingency sessions’.

These contingency sessions are designed to be used in the event of national or significant local disruption to examinations. This means that all exam candidates must be available to sit exams from the date of their first exam until Wednesday 24th June 2026. This decision is not a school decision and does apply to all candidates in all schools.

Please use the link below to check whether your child is entitled to free school meals and to find out about how to apply for free school meals on your local authority's website.

tps://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals

How to apply for free school meals

You can apply for your children to receive free school meals if you are receiving certain welfare benefits.

All children get free school meals if they are in Year 1 or Year 2.  If you receive any of the benefits below, you should still apply so that the school gets extra funding.

This money could go towards things like learning support and co-curricular or after-school activities.

Am I eligible?

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:

  • Younger than the compulsory age for starting school
  • In full-time education

I don’t live in the borough where my child goes to school.  Where do I apply?

To make it easier for you to check, we have compiled a list of local boroughs with links of how to apply.  If yours is not listed below, please feel free to contact us for help to find out how.

Lost Property

Please may we remind parents/carers to write your child's name on all of their belongings so that we can return any lost items to them. If belongings are handed in to us, and they are named, we will contact the student directly, so please ask your child to check their school email account to see if we have messaged them.

Please click on the link here to report lost property or email us directly via
