BGS' Winter Formal 2024

Glamour, memories and pure vibes.

Those four words perfectly encompass BGS' First Winter Formal - an incredible evening that brought the Sixth Form Students together. For just one night, the hall was transformed into a winter wonderland, with glittering snowflakes and lights creating a beautiful atmosphere. From the sleekest of suits to the most elegant dresses, every Sixth Former there brought their best for the night. Live music from some of our favourite teachers (Mr. Booth, Mr. Diebel, and Mr. Male), along with incredibly talented students, set the perfect tone for the evening. With such incredible music, it was no surprise the dance floor was packed until the very last song.

I can confidently say that this was one of the best events I have attended at this school, and I am honoured I was able to capture the beautiful moments of the evening on film.

A massive round of applause for the Senior Prefects, who made the entire event a success. Here's to more unforgettable nights, just like this one!

MFL Language Club

Language Club has been a thrill. Ever since I joined Language Club, it has been amazing. Learning about peoples' languages and cultures has made me realise the diversity in Bexley Grammar.

From the lessons we have had, we have learnt Igbo, Russian, Pashto and Turkish and even some origami on Cambodian flowers.

It has felt like we have accomplished so much in just a few lessons and I can’t wait for future lessons to come.

Muhammad, Year 7

Key Stage 3 Language Club runs on Wednesday lunchtimes from 12.50 - 1.20pm. It is supported by our KS3 MFL prefects and is open to all Key Stage 3 students (look out for the messages on Tutor Notices). Our students have been amazing - volunteering to lead language taster lessons and planning their own resources with interesting cultural facts, key phrases and quizzes. The confidence with which they have delivered the lessons has been so impressive, and we have all learnt a lot. We have some more exciting language lessons lined up for the rest of this term, and we welcome any ideas for language and culture-based activities for the club.

December Wellbeing Calendar

In addition to our advent calendars, below is a wellbeing calendar for December. Labelled 'Do-good December', it's actually just tiny little things - manageable for all that December brings with it - that can make a difference to someone else's day, and our own.

Mrs Meyer, Assistant Head

Christmas Spirit Day, Charlton Athletic Football Club

Dear Parent/Carer

As part of our Christmas Spirit Day, Charlton Athletic Football Club, working in partnership with the London Borough of Bexley, would like to offer every child receiving or eligible for Free School Meals the chance to join us for an upcoming home fixture at The Valley (SE7 8BL) for free.

Tickets will be made available to families for the Charlton Athletic match against Mansfield Town on Saturday, December 14th or Cambridge United on Boxing Day (Thursday, December 26th). Both games kick-off at 3pm.

Families can request up to two adult tickets for each junior ticket claimed. Tickets will be supplied on a first come, first served basis. Each family must choose one of the two games to attend, not both.

To claim your ticket, we need you to fill in the form via the attached QR code. All forms must be filled in correctly and entirely in the right format or the ticket request will not be fulfilled.

The information we need is as follows:

· Game you wish to attend

· Child’s first name

· Child’s surname

· Child’s date of birth

· House number/name and postcode

· Phone number

· Email address

· School name

· Number of adult tickets required

This form must be completed by 1pm on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024.

Tickets will only be available for collection at the stadium on the day of the game.

Best regards,

Charlton Athletic

Important Information from the Attendance Office

Punctuality

Dear Parent/Carer,

The Attendance Office would like to clarify that being late for school due to traffic in the surrounding area is not classed as an 'exceptional circumstance'.  The Attendance Officers will closely monitor local issues and if there is an exceptional incident, resulting in a high volume of students being late for school, we will make reasonable adjustments on these occasions.

Students are advised to be in school at 8:15am every day to ensure they have sufficient time to go to their lockers/bathroom etc.

Students attending clubs before school must still ensure they register at 8:30am. Arrival after 8:30am is considered to be late.

Should your child be late for a genuinely exceptional reason, please email the Attendance Officers and explain these circumstances.
