Careers & Higher Education

The majority of 6th form students go on to higher education and all students are supported throughout the process of choosing and applying to university courses by tutors, 6th form staff and the school’s careers and higher education adviser. Beginning in the Spring term of Year 12, students are encouraged to research higher education options carefully, including visiting universities and attending taster events. Visiting speakers from universities and employers contribute to the annual UCAS day for students during the Summer term, and a higher education information evening is held for Year 12 parents and students.

The careers office is situated in the careers area of the library, and operates an open access policy, with students able to call in for information and advice, or make appointments for longer discussions. The Oxbridge tutor gives additional advice and support to those students applying to
Oxford or Cambridge.

The school places a strong emphasis on providing for every individual, and the careers and higher education adviser is also available to support any students considering a change of direction at any stage during their 6th form studies. Students choosing to go straight into employment receive advice on job opportunities and applications.
